This all seems very strange. Was this activist such a believer in the message so much so that they would be willing to martyr themselves in the name of progress? Are the police so evil that they would murder a woman in jail and cover it up? Who knows. People will believe what they want.

I find it unlikely that this woman (who I don't know and know nothing about) would kill themselves. I find it equally unlikely that sheriff deputies would strangle a woman in a jail cell (there are better ways to silence someone, probably). This is all just one fucked up situation.

I don't find it that difficult. The martyrdom impulse in some cause junkies is strong.

It would require an act of premeditated, cold blooded murder, as opposed to some idiot cop(s) accidentally exerting lethal force in the heat of an arrest. I don't see how you could get enough cops/MEs/DAs/etc to cover that up.

If this was a murder, all law enforcement personnel actively responsible need to get the needle.

Yes, killing more people is the obvious answer /s

It's not strange at all. It's very straightforward. They pulled her over because they knew who she was, put her in jail because that was part of the plan, and went into her jail cell and caused the asphyxiation, however they did that. I'm sure they have a coroner on the take who'll write up a nice tale corroborating their story. Then this all gets forgotten and swept under the rug. One less troublemaker causing problems for crooked cops.

Well, my guess is the strangulation is a cover up.

My two main hypotheses are:

  1. She received a serious phone-call (e.g. fired) and saw her current situation as an opportunity to commit suicide in such a way that it was (in her mind) a "righteous act", furthering the "progressive" cause and revealing the "true nature of the police".
  2. Someone she knew from before (reminder: she was returning to the place she had studied, so she knew people there) wanted revenge for either personal reasons or something to do with her activism.

I'm usually quite critical of the police and I think they should have body cams at all times, but I don't think hanging someone like this is something they would do.

  • What did she (or someone else) hang her with?
  • What was that phone call she received before she died?
  • Did she have problems (break-up, mental/physical health, fired, etc.) This will turn out to be a very interesting case I think.

She just got a brand new job, as the story states. =/ There is no video ... where's the dash cam for this "routine stop"? A little too convenient, don't you think?

I have a different theory. While in prison, the police might have been trying to restrain her. They went too far and believed her to be dead. Fearful they would take the heat for it, they made it look like an asphyxiation and "discovered her" an hour later. At that point, she was dead. I mean, clearly these cops have a habit of making bad decisions when it comes to restraint.

They say she hanged herself with a trash bag.

Her family's last contact with her was Friday evening when she stated her expectation to post bond on Saturday. She was found dead on Monday morning.

Why was she still in jail? What happened to the expected posting of bond?

Cops routinely fuck up when restraining people and accidentally kill them. Occams razor.
