Been on SNAP before. I can tell you that meat isn't something often at food banks. Now the important thing to remember here is that with food stamps what we need is more local food suppliers such as farmers markets that are not hipster Hangouts that have bullshit items.

Like organic ketchup infused with unicorn tears. Be basic and charge a reasonable price is all. 90% of the farmers markets I have been to accept food stamps.

If someone is actually poor, beans are a dirt cheap source of protein.

Poor? Lol do you know how food stamps work?

Every 6 months you get revaluation to see if you will be getting them again. They take into account of job, housing, and all incurred expenses you have. If you are "poor" they actually get you a job. Not help they will indeed get you a job in many states.

It is funny how little people know about the process. They think you just go down to the food stamp building and get you some food stamps.

No you fill out the paperwork and submit it. Depending upon their mood you get seen immediately or likely you will have to wait for a worker to be assigned, and then 2 weeks later you get a date for assessment. If you have a kid you will have your home inspection by your case worker. At least that is how I had it happen.

After that you will be spoken down to by the social worker that says.

You are white....why can't you get a job?

Then after you submit that recording to your local state representative like I did you immediately get you card, and are back paid from the date of your application.

It is quite possibly the most degrading and upsetting experience I have had. Been working since I was 15 and in 2009 I wasn't able to find even temp work. Went to the work today get paid tonight things. Up every goddamn day at 3am to be in line at 4am and wait till noon every fucking day. Just to be told nope.....for 3 weeks.

Instead I donated plasma, mowed lawns, and whatever else I could before I swallowed my pride and went in and asked for help. This is a common story with other white people and our system needs to be fixed, but not for eradication of benefits.
