Tough call. Downtown West Hollywood isn't really an apples->apples comparison with SF, and to be a little fair, I haven't been there specifically in more than two decades. I remember being surprised at how small it was...the Walk of Fame is a short-ish sidewalk.
The hills nearby have some very nice homes in them...but the "famous" part of Hollywood are a side trip at best if you ever visit. Better to shop Rodeo Drive or hit a beach if you're looking for something interesting.
(Actually, one of my favorite little beach towns is Santa Monica.)
