I've said it before Asian in England means muzzo because of our colonial past in the middle East/Indian subcontinent. If someone wants to refer to the "Asians" discriminated against at Harvard we would say Chinese or Japanese. Although in recent years our media has deliberately referred to those groups as Asian to deliberately muddy the water between Muslim and oriental

Oriental is also vague. Historically it was used to refer to everyone from Turkey to Japan.

Nobody assumes that a Turk is an "Oriental".

Orientals are Asians; Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, etc.

I never said it wasn't. My point is that if you say "Asian" to a British person they immediately know what you mean, but here on Voat it seems to be very US centric with the language. If I said "Asian" to an American they would think of someone from the Far East correct? Asia encompasses the area as you rightly say, Turkey to Japan

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orient#British_and_Irish_English explains it quite well
