I'm against affirmative action and think that contributes to the problem, but to me long shifts might be a huge part of the issue for any medical errors. Consider this insanity.

Dr Laxman should have given Laura an emergency Caesarean, as her premature baby was breech, but the exhausted medic nearing the end of a 24-hour shift instead tried a natural delivery — with horrifying results.

Even the smartest doctor in the world could be prone to bad decision making when exhausted at the end of this kind of shift. Affirmative action doctors might barely qualify in med-school if they dumb down the curriculum just a tad, but when fatigue plays a role they have no margin for error and might be more likely to make mistakes than non-affirmative action hires.

Obviously merit should be the only criteria used, but the merits of the long-shifts that doctors work should also be reconsidered for the well-being of all patients.

How is a 24-hour shift legal anywhere in the world? You'd think the quality of work would decline so much past the 12-hour mark that it wouldn't be worth it.

The medical community as a whole is a shit show. Proof? The number 3 leading cause of death is hospitals.

The U.S. military recognized this problem long ago. They made it so that soldiers who do anything that leads to friendly losses after 14 hours of work, without an 8 hour break in between, aren't held accountable for their actions. Instead the officers, not NCOs, above them get to carry all of the blame.

I work 14 hours regularly with a few 16s mixed in every week. At the end of the week you could really be dragging ass if you dont use your off time wisely, but the quality of work doesn't drop that badly. Considering after 12 hours is 2x pay and after 14 is 3x (depending where you live) they won't pay that if quality is going to drop severely

I used to work as a dealer in a Casino. We had 13-14 hours shifts, but that was because we had a break every hour. One of 15 minutes, one of 30 minutes, etc. We had a cafeteria with free food, and the food was delicious. We had free drinks, including energy drinks. Lots of TVs. Doctors should be treated like that.

It certainly makes it clear where priorities lie.

[–] ShinyVoater 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

You're certainly right, but there are just way too many problems listed there with the situation for her actions to be justifiable. At the very, very least she should have deferred to someone else.

I've always been unclear on why this is necessary. Are there any people here that work in the medical field that can explain why it is necessary for interns and doctors to work such stupidly long shifts?

[–] Zaqwert 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

Look at the test scores for whites and asiasn vs. blacks and hispanics for medical school acceptance.

They scarp the bottom of the barrel in order to get any blacks or hispanics in school. You'd have to be crazy to voluntarily take a non-white doctor.

[–] vladtep 1 points 4 points (+5|-1) ago

There is also a difference between passing a test and being good at problem solving.

The others (especially indian) may have good test scores but they are not good thinkers.

Our sons doctor is black but he is also literally autistic. He's a smart dude. But I am well aware he is the exception and not the rule.

[–] Timmy2 1 points 8 points (+9|-1) ago

Any affirmative action professional is a disaster. Fuck that libtard system designed to get black votes at the expense of a higher functioning society.

[–] McFluffy 1 points 9 points (+10|-1) ago

and at the expense of any of the 1% of black people who actually are good.

think about it, you move to a new place, and now need a new doctor. you look up online who you are now going to go to.

you see an Asian face and a black face, who do you choose? the face that had their SAT score slashed by 300 points just for being Asian and despite all that shit still made it, or the face that had their score boosted by 200 points and got their degree on a silver spoon?

it is now impossible to know if a black doctor is any good before you go, so why would you ever go to them in the first place when you could go to a Asian or European doctor?

an extension of this, why would the few smart black people even try? why would they not be angry at the liberals fixing a problem that isnt even there?

[–] vladtep 1 points 1 points (+2|-1) ago  (edited ago)

Yes, all that matters is how it affects them.

Well, other than finding that precious 1% black diamond.

And we need to give more med school slots to women, so they can marry and fuck off when they're 32 to make everyone else work 24 hour shifts.

Wamuns and blacks need jobs to feel important, this is our main priority and rightly so.

I feel really badly for this lady. She seems to be handling things so well and has to do with a shit-skin for this problem. These people do not care for our people and is why they don't take extra precautions. Indian doctors are way, way overrated too.

[–] alphasnail 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Allowing them to murder their baby takes an extremely high level of control I'll never know. Those doctors bodies and souls would have been mine.

No, it's why affirmative action and diversity quotas are a problem. This is cultural marxism. The new form of communism.
