I wish Trump - and the rest of Washington - had the balls to say "not our problem". The US shouldn't be fucking around in Jihadistan. Let them blow each other up, and let Russia do some blowing if it wants to.

If trump holds the line he's officially holding on the matter, it really is because he doesn't have any better option, because he personally would prefer not getting involved in any of this, or at worst just bomb the whole jihad crew and call it a day, but if someone else could do it, that would be just great. That was his stance during his campaign when it comes to it, he's been quite explicit

The fact that now, he has kind of inverted his stance on the matter, shows that there are some long term, serious strategic interests at stake in that particular conflict, and that he just can't toss it aside, he has to get there and do that, no choice

I'm not sure what those strategic interests are, probably a mix of iran, israel, saudis, china, russia and europe (yes fucken europe, energy market)

The kind of crossroad of interests you just can't simply give up on

That's a lot of assumptions. We know why the US got involved in Syria, for the pipeline access. Trump inverting on this is cowardly.

But the world needs to act, without America doing it for them constantly.
