You're still documented if you lose your ID, police can access your information with just your name. And I'm sure you have your SIN memorized (or at least you should anyways), so are you really undocumented?

The literal definition of undocumented would be to lack documents. I could see arguing losing a wallet doesn't really count, but all my documents burning in a fire should, just like my house burning down would leave me temporarily homeless.

It's in a database, so like the house, it could be replaced. It would take a while, and during that period, I would be homeless and undocumented.

And I'm sure you have your SIN memorized (or at least you should anyways)

Both of them. My first SIN started with 9 (as a student, and as a temporary foreign worker), so employers knew to require proof of work authorization. When I became a landed immigrant, it was deactivated, of course.
