at that time, seriously? Who calls people at 2am etc. and wakes them up just to chat?

Agreed, under any typical situation. By this time Seth was not in a typical situation. If he had blown the doors open on something this big, knowing who was involved and how much power they had, he likely knew his life was in peril. Hard to carry on day-to-day acting like everything's normal with that on your mind, friends & family had to know something was up. Getting a call in the middle of the night to "chat" about his safety ("don't worry, I'm just minutes from my door, ttyl") was probably not normal for him, but in this case they probably were glad to hear from him.

Then he arrives at his home at 4:17 am and gets shot. It took him 3 hours to walk home? I find that hard to believe without some serious stops along the way, and if so where and why were those stops made?

He knows his life is peril, he walks home (presumably alone) after midnight, he calls everyone to chat on his way and assures them he's almost there when he hangs up. My guess is he knew someone was coming after him that night and was caught alone. Maybe he was calling friends & family get them to come over, or maybe just wanted closure on shit before he was knocked off. Or maybe he wanted to help get some cell signal tracing on record so that after he was killed it'd be harder to sweep his whereabouts under the carpet. Maybe he knew his call was tapped so he said he was almost home to throw them off the scent about where he was really going.

Maybe one of the guys he called helped him out ("hey buddy, I hear yeah, come meet me at .....") so he changed plan. Maybe when the place they were at closed down he figured it was safe and then went home, only to find his intuition was right all along.

Point is it sounds like the reported timeline is still credible, but the implied narrative around it (drunk guy walks home alone, gets lost, then shot) is laughable.

If you think your life is in peril, you don't call family/friends for cell phone tracing purposes, you call the police or walk to a police station. Yes, now everyone will swoop in with "the police are all in on it too" But not every single police officer is bought. Also, you could go to a 24 hour store and ask someone to pick you up - someplace where there would be other witnesses or CCTV. His actions don't say he was scared for his life. Maybe he was questioned for a while before he was shot?

good point about rational action he would have taken if his life was in danger. but if he was at a bar and felt his life was in danger on his way home, he probably wasn't thinking clearly. I would call my loved ones in that situation.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I don't understand - all of that would support the narrative this author is trying to push, so why leave those details out? Why leave gaps in the story large enough to drive a tractor trailer through? I get he is not writing a book, but it wouldn't take much effort to have the story make some sense to the reader, or else don't include the timeline and the fact he is calling everyone in the wee hours of the morning to begin with. I am not trying to be argumentative, but I am not turning off my BS and shoddy/fake news detector just because I believe the narrative might be true, or the article is on "my side" etc.

I don't know anything about this author or any agenda he might have, but two possible reasons for leaving gaps: (1) Author is really democratic and is intentionally obfuscating facts to cast doubt on the "conspiracy theory", (2) Author simply doesn't have those facts and is sticking to reporting what is known, purposely not filling in gaps with opinionated theories.

I'm hoping it's the latter, and IMO should be the way reporting is done. The questions we readers get from the gaps should drive us to pressure investigators to find out more.

Perhaps the author doesn't know the answers to these questions
