There is some truth to it, as trans people often overcopensate and take their chosen gender stereotype to the extreme. MtFs go for skirts, pink and act like bubbly skanks. FtMs go full supermacho bulldyke with for facial hair, weightlifting and everything else that seems manly man.

When have you the last time seen a modestly dressed MtF with a simple blouse and jeans, or an FtM that is fine just looking like an emasculated stamp collector with a bald patch?

Yea. I remember I was in an elevator with a dyke. When she walked it was harder than a man walking. Instead of just pushing the door to the building like a regular person she pushed it way hard. Tried to be manlier than a man. Another homo at his place I used to work would dress like a woman sometimes. Wear excessive amount of makeup and the mannerisms were worse than a woman's.

They can't operate within means.

Even if they at first think being a "normal man" is quite enough, they are still always reminded of their inadequacies: Short, low muscle density, slow muscle build-up, semi-functional dick, delicate digits etc. Hormones and cosmetic surgery can only take it so far.

Going full manly man bulldyke lumberjack with a viking beard helps to overcompensate, and to draw attention away from their feminine traits by hoarding as many masculine trappings as possible. Of course this will peeve TERFs who preach that gender is a social construct, and that the only reason girls prefer puppets and pink stuff over toy cars and blue stuff is the evil partiarchy forcefully pushing them into their role. Transpeople not only recognize the division, they embrace it and wrap themselves in it to move the external perception of them closer to their inner self image.
