So tldr, Spain still had strong control over Mexico and the spaniards were running it, but the US got involved and backed "Mexico" in the revolution, basically ending all Spaniard control over Mexico and then all the Spaniards left to Argentina, Chile, and in some cases to Texas.
Now all that's left is well, violent native Americans.
