reddit had better technology than Digg. I don't think Voat has better technology than reddit.

It's not about technology, it's about the user base. And if Reddit is so technologically advanced, why are there so many complaints about mod tools, etc.. Their internal search engine is shit.

Reddit hopes users install reddit enhancement suite to make it better. It's already built into Voat

How can I tag users then?

Well, not entirely. I still miss being able to click on a comment and press A to upvote it quickly

One one many reason why I am staying with Voat is the fact that I dont have to use RES anymore. When I started using Voat and I got this functionality out of the box with Voat, I was really happy. I am totally happy with one less extension on my browser.

The most useful function of the RES, in my opinion, was the ability to filter domains. If that is built into Voat, I'd love to learn how to do it.

Also the massive censorship that goes on at reddit. It's not your technology. It's your policies for a "safe space" so you can monetize reddit.

For now... We would have to see how it perform with the amount of users reddit has...

Same here. Not by a lot, but it does load a bit faster.

Good, then he won't try to sue us for anything.

Back to work my fellow Goat Herders. These upvoats won't doll themselves out.

I don't see what they would be able to sue for even if they wanted to.

You'd think that, wouldn't you, but that is not how greed and the legal system works.

You want something bad enough, you find a legal loophole to get it.

I frankly don't see why he should be afraid of Voat. Voat is right now at least somewhat similar to what reddit was years ago (and no, I don't want Voat to be reddit, but as long as compare). reddit, with the insane amount of userbase it has is not making a lot of money, so they are turning it into a cashcow.

So reddit has already been through the stage that Voat is in right now, and now reddit is in it for the money. So, no point in Steve Huffman being afraid of Voat at all.

You do bring up a vaild point. But my question to you is, did you come here cause reddit monetized? Or because of their complete and utter bullshit at attempting to control the internet.

This is what he said in 2012.

Reddit cofounder Steve Huffman believes users were never that loyal to Digg in particular, though. “What we always used to say to make ourselves feel better when we were smaller than Digg was, ‘Every Reddit user knows about Digg but uses Reddit instead. But not every Digg user knows about Reddit,’ ” says Huffman, who left Reddit in 2009 and went on to cofound the travel site Hipmunk.

Huffman and others don’t think Reddit killed Digg, but he acknowledges that Reddit didn’t help. “[Former Digg users] just happened to go to Reddit, which made my day, but I think they were leaving Digg, period,” he says.

Users aren't loyal to Reddit, either. The fact that all of these sites must realize is that users are committed to content. They will go to where the content is.

He will have to learn that lesson the hard way, just like Digg did. It may not be Voat, but some other new site, but it will happen. Actually I'm hoping it's not Voat, Reddit turned to shit due to it's popularity.

Right but content hasn't necessarily gone completely over to Voat yet either so I can understand his lack of concern. Huffman is hoping to retain enough of the content creators to keep reddit going, and it's still up in the air whether they'll be able to.

Part of it is going to be how well they can monetize reddit without pissing off those users, and another part is going to be keeping the mods happy. Assuming they can manage both of those things relatively well and keep the spin good then I don't see a mass exodus over to Voat happening like it did to reddit from digg.

This. At the time Digg visually was a hell of a lot better then reddit (I am unsure of the tech comparison). People left because the site changed gears and went to shit. Tech it makes it easier to use and it helps if the site stays up but it's not the tech that draws.

I know it proves nothing, but i knew both and i found Digg better. I only went to Reddit because they destroyed Digg and it was the only option.

Well, I've all but closed 1 of my user accounts on Reddit, and I've replaced Reddit with Voat at one of my homepages,

He shouldn't be afraid of Voat. Voat isn't here to take over, if all the people who think Reddit is doing nothing wrong simply stay there it's a win for us afterall.

It is good to have competition. Reddit isn't the first site to visit anymore.
