Representative democracy doesn't work because politicians aren't like the people at all. Direct democracy doesn't work because it's just putting your name on a list without a political party to back you up. Sortition democracy is getting warmer, and it works for city states, but at too much of a scale it results in a French Revolution situation with power struggles among fresh, inexperienced factions.

Now monarchy, that's the real form of democracy. A king is generally representative of what his tribe is like and his power is not disputed. Republics are in fact the opposite of democracy, and they only work when capitalism yields high returns in an era of rapid technological development. They aren't designed for stability or maturity.

A representative democracy would work IF we had true representation. Corporations have representation and it's working out great for them; just not for us deplorables.
