Drug testing welfare recipients has been proven to be a waste of money every single time it's been done. On the other hand if you decided to test government workers, but in particular politicians, you'd drain the swamp overnight.

No it hasn't. It has proven every time that it's done that people either won't apply or they drop off the system. Every single study that says it's a waste of money ignores the fact that people stop applying in such large numbers or stop renewing benefits if they are forced to take a test to receive benefits.

For every one "drop out" there's one who changes to more dangerous harder-to-detect drugs such as heroin, which eventually ends up costing the system more. Drug testing in prisons was how the UK got a massive wave of heroin addiction in the 1990s, smoke a spliff and they can get you on a drug test 3-4 weeks later, smoke heroin and its undetectable after 72 hours.

it's incredibly easy to cheat a test that you know is coming, this would only work if it was a random one.

cheating drug tests is VERY easy if you know the day and time. When i was younger i had to do drug tests once a week while i was on bond, even when someone was behind me i still cheated it EVERY week for over a year, did it over 70 times.

Yep. This was done in Florida and it turns out to be a boondoggle putting government money in the pocket of the Governor. Fucking swamp creatures.

Drug tests are incredibly expensive. I was sent a statement from my insurance company when they put me on some pain pills after my hip replacement surgery for one and it was around $7,000 for a full screen. If the Government, the Private Sector, and Lobbyists are involved, you know it's going to cost a fortune.

Most people don't even receive $7,000 worth of welfare per year!

no.

the welfare sponges must GTFO.

if you wanna do drugs under these rules, make yourself great then get off welfare and then buy drugs with the money you earned

The better option is simply to provide the food via gov distribution centers. Drug testing everyone is far more expensive than even that.

Okay, let's drug test you when you get your first SS check and then every 3 months afterwards.

Drug test for Congress.

Yes please. Politicians have no accountability. And when they do, its only because it leaked to the public and the public goes on a temporary which hunt and then forgets about it a week later.

Dumb move that's been a complete waste of taxpayer funds everywhere it's been tried AND it's already been ruled unconstitutional by the 11th circuit COA back in 2014. The costs of rolling this out nationwide would far outweigh any savings of those kicked off SNAP benefits for using and then the costs of defending the program all the way up through SCOTUS just for it to almost certainly be struck down are just not worth it.

Exactly. If you save say $1000 dollars per addict removed and each test costs $10; if you test 1,000 people and only catch 8 (like Florida) then how the hell did you save money? There are better ways to cut off the leeches on our society, let's not waste time doing it with a policy than can be easily proven to be faulty.

[–] ILoveBeingHuman 1 points 8 points (+9|-1) ago

Yep, but good luck trying to get this point across to people who think about this issue emotionally instead of rationally. Number won't matter to them only their bad feelings toward our nation's parasites. I have those same bad feelings, guessing you do too, but numbers matter more than feels.

[–] speedisavirus 1 points 5 points (+6|-1) ago

It's not who you catch. Florida didn't catch many because people that knew they would fail didn't apply or renew. Their enrollments dropped like a rock when they instituted it.

It was ruled to be a breach of the 4th amendment. The court called it an "unreasonable search" because of a failure to show a "substantial need" to test benefit recipients. You can find more on the case by looking up Lebron v. Secretary of Florida Dept of Children & Families.

And restrict what can be bought with food stamps. People shouldn't be allowed to buy 40's of malt liquor at the 7/11 with their EBT. It should be like WIK.

[–] Fred 1 points 17 points (+18|-1) ago

Food stamps can't buy alcohol.

https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligible-food-items

Can't buy hot food with it either, though some places get around that by selling food for one cost for EBT then charging to heat it up, something like buy it with the EBT than pay like 50 cents to have it cooked.

[–] Trash_Panda 3 points 12 points (+15|-3) ago  (edited ago)

I'm in a halfway house so I've come into contact with a looooooooot of criminals and it doesn't fucking matter what you can or can't buy with it. They will be like "here you can buy $50 in groceries and give me $30 cash" or they'll just use the EBT and use their own cash for alcohol/drug money. A lot of food stamp recipients DO actually work in some capacityso you're actually just subsidizing shitty budgeting, frivolous spending and bad habits. It's like an alcoholic who has 20 dollars, you give him an additional 20 dollars and say "this is for food ONLY" what exactly do you think he's going to do with the initial 20 dollars? It's pointless to even specify what he can do with it because it's still enabling him.

You are not allowed, in CA at-least, to buy non food items. This includes Alcohol/Cigs etc even Toilet paper / Foil.

They technically can't. But they will just trade it or the 7/11 will ring up something else.

So they'll do water soluble drugs and pills instead of fat soluble drugs... nice work...

Considering the recipient will have to sign up for services these won't likely be surprise drug tests. There's a huge difference between the effectiveness of surprise drug tests vs tests where the recipient has a scheduled appointment every month.

f o r w o r k

If he's on welfare, blame the employer stealing from you to pay their labor costs, the elites importing foreigners spiking the labor surplus, the feminists pushing women into working and.... everyone who has actual power instead of the people who don't.
