My friend showed me this article. While I generally don't care about random news, the amount of stupidity in law enforcement seems to be getting worse by the looks of this article.

In New Jersey, you need a permit to purchase firearms and pistol, but not to move into the state with legally owned firearms. Aka, a permit to purchase, not to own. This also means you don't need to renew it if you don't plan on buying more guns or pistol ammo.

The cops out there are under the impression otherwise, and will harass you if you transport your firearms without a purchasing permit. Two buddies of mine (both military and wearing civies) were pulled over for speeding on the way to the range and the officer was one step away from arresting them. The only thing that stopped him was the fact that he wasn't 100% confident after they argued with the legalities of it, and it would look very bad if he improperly arrested two military personnel.

P.S. It's not entirely his fault. The officers are trained to ask for the permit if you're transporting firearms when they pull you over. This story isn't unique.

Idiot cops. Didn't the Supreme Court rule that cops don't need to know the laws? But ignorance of the law is no excuse for the rest of us.

It would be stupid if it wasn't on purpose.
