REI's parent company Vista Outdoors (also owns Savage Arms) wouldn't outright speak out against the NRA and so REI refuses to carry anything related to Vista. https://newsroom.rei.com/company-information/statements/rei-statement-on-relationship-with-vista-outdoor.htm

It's the worst form of corporate virtue signaling.

EDIT: Vista is not REI's parent company. That was my mistake as corrected below.

Incorrect, REI is virtue signaling against Vista Outdoors (owner of Giro, Bell, Camelbak, Camp Chef and Blackburn in addition to Savage Arms). Vista Outdoors does not own REI.

Ok, my mistake. When articles say 'parent company' they are using that term generically for Vista, not that Vista is REI's parent company. I misread that.

Yeah. They made a press release saying that they were super disappointed that their parent company didn't "plan to make a public statement that outlines a clear plan of action" against guns. So they will no longer sell anything in their store from any company that Vista owns; besides REI of course. Virtue Signaling 101.
