And some people wonder why cops are hated.

No one really wonders, there are just some people out there that are so good at playing stupid that they convince themselves there aren't valid reasons.

This comment really needs more upvotes. It was pointed out in the article that law-abiding citizens have this bad habit of consenting to searches to show they have nothing to hide, but they really need to knock that shit off. It only encourages shady officers to keep trying to manipulate people into forfeiting their rights.

Exactly. It's because people don't understand the legal system or governments.

I would also add that people need to begin contesting all tickets in court whether or not you think you can win. Bogging down the system, restricting their cash flow and making it more expensive to give out tickets, would do a lot to prevent the system's abuse.

Yep. Go ahead, waste several hours waiting for a warrant, trying to drum up probable cause, then actually searching. You won't find shit on me. How often are you going to waste half your day coming up with nothing? Like he said, never consent, especially if you're clean.

Never consent to anything. They are trained to manipulate and take advantage

Only works if they can't see something through the window that would be considered probable cause.

How much is a body supposed to go for these days? How about a severely damaged one? Can make up the price in emotional trauma fees

I’m not sure courier’s can even insure these because it’s a personal effect that has no limit to what can be claimed as a value

This title is misleading. According to the article the officers left the vial of ashes in his car with the cap loose and when the man picked it up half of the ashes spilled out. Yes they should have capped it correctly. No they did not intentionally dump them out.

He should have had them sealed in some borosilicate glass.

Why does the coefficient of thermal expansion matter if its just holding room temperature ashes? That, and its ability to absorb radiation are the only things that make it different from regular glass

Losing a kid really fucks you up. I have a friend whose 10 year old died in his sleep on Christmas night from some heart condition that was complicated by ADHD drugs. The public school system pressured the dad into getting his son on the drugs, saying it was for the best interests of the child's education and they could get child services involved if he refused to get him diagnosed with ADHD. I can't imagine how anyone copes with that sort of thing.
