What’s more, Stephens was not the driver of the vehicle. However, she told police that she was the one who strapped in her daughter, so now she is the one facing charges in her death.

This here is exactly why you do NOT talk to the police. In times of stress, you are not thinking in terms of what is in your best interest. Let your attorney give a statement. (I am not an attorney. This is my OPINION. Fuck off, prosecutors.)

This. Cops usually have a day or two break after killing someone or something serious before they have to say anything, but on the flip side they will grill you immediately.

Hey man, a child died due to gross negligence. Heads must roll for this okay!! Just not the head of the person responsible so that's why we nail the mother to the cross. Fuck if I care how incredibly fucked up it is to murder a mother's child and then hold her legally accountable for the murder. LOL. Isn't America fucking great! Greatest country in the world... unless your a peasant... then yeah, I suppose it does kinda blow to live in America.

This is somewhat similar to an event in my city. On-duty sergeant cop chasing a stolen motorcycle blowing through a surface street intersection at over 100mph, striking a car and killing the occupants and himself. Not only was he cited as a hero, they named that section of the road as a memorial, and charged the fleeing criminal (who was caught later anyway) with murder, not just homicide. There were multiple units involved in the chase including a helicopter. What it worth all the lives lost over a stolen mc?

We had a cop rear end and ambulance, wasn't involved in an emergency at all, maimed the paramedic... still no citation.

Hopefully the paramedic filed a civil suit. But even if he did and won, we all know the price he would have paid.

This is an example of felony murder, as the deaths were a result of committing a crime even if it wasn't intentional. There is another example of this that happened locally where I live: Two dumb shits tried robbing a store and one waited in the getaway car, the owner of the store blew away the kid trying to rob him. The one in the car gets hit with a felony murder because he was taking part in the criminal action that got his partner killed.

That sounds like another recent story where a 20-something year old killed two three home invaders and the getaway driver who was waiting outside was charged with their murder.

Court hearings are ongoing, "FELONY DOCKET SHEPHERD - DCA" scheduled for 19 March, I don't know what that means though.

I'm aware of that and can see why it is available to prosecutors. Of course there are important differences between the 2 occurrences. This is a case where justice isn't the same as legalities. This is also why many cities have strengthened their pursuit criteria, requiring oversight from higher officials to begin or continue a pursuit.

That's why the officer is charged with negligent homicide

We have a no chase law for motorcycles in my state. I've seen a couple motorcycle deaths result from unmarked police cars spooking a bike or giving chase to someone going no faster than the flow of traffic. Also not surprising when a local officer gets pulled over for drunk driving while in their patrol car. Our local police are corrupt as fuck and I roll with a dash cam for protection.

This is a great point to use against gun legislation......lefty's say only the police should have guns......O, the same police that have zero accountability, that turn off body cameras, steal from innocent citizens and are trigger happy, they should be the only ones with guns?

Wrong its to "tax" the populace via fines and jail time (many prisons are run by for profit corps who get paid with YOUR tax dollars) and keep filling the federal coffers.
