what's the difference between this link and OP's link?

0

[–] NonOpinionated 0 points 21 points (+21|-0) ago

Using the archive link will not give the website hits and therefore ad revenue. Use it if you want to read what they say but not register yourself as visited their site.

[–] Cheapliquid 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago  (edited ago)

The archive link doesn't give the website a "hit" no revenue for clicking through, ad impressions etc.

Wow. I don't think I need confirmation bias. Those first three paragraphs are so full of lies, generalizations, and smear that even hardcore SJWs might see it.

Reddit critics’ singular hatred for Ellen Pao, who played a relatively small role in the site’s evolution, is hard to explain in rational terms.

How is this so hard to understand? She had been the CEO for most of reddit's worst decisions. Her conduct at her previous employer was atrocious. Her lawsuit against her previous employer was a baseless attempt to play the victim for monetary gain, which is despicable and hurts people who actually are victims of discrimination. She married a con-man who has defrauded public pensions. This has nothing to do with her sex or her race and has everything to do with the content of her character.

[–] mmf07c 1 points 44 points (+45|-1) ago

No one wants to actually address these issues when its much easier to just paint tons of users who disagree with her decisions as misogynists.

2

[–] cointelpro_shill 3 points 2 points (+5|-3) ago

I don't give a shit when people far richer than me conduct frivolous lawsuits against venture capital firms, or marry rich fraudsters. Most people don't. What is there to address here?

1

[–] binky 1 points -1 points (+0|-1) ago

It's not about what's easier, it's about painting a woman's-rights-oriented narrative to support Clinton's bid for president.

This is The Verge we're talking about. They're part of Vox Media - who also owns Polygon. They're clearly fully in line with that fucked-up agenda Vox is pushing.

Reading up on the reddit “revolt,” becomes clear their real complaint is having a CEO who is a woman and non-white.

Hasn't she only been CEO for 8 months? I don't like her by any stretch of the imagination and I don't think she should be at the helm. But reddit has been going down hill for some time now. Content has been getting worse for years, the hive mind attitude has been terrible, and the brigade-ing for/against issues is infuriating. Good luck having any dissenting opinion over there that doesn't fall into one of the popular narratives.

1
7

[–] MagnaFarce 1 points 7 points (+8|-1) ago

True, it has been getting worse for a while, but that's just because of shitty users. Pao enacted changes that make the site itself shitty.

[–] IAMA_Plumber-AMA 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago

The absolute worst were the power users that only submitted lowest common denominator bullshit, especially witithout crediting the source.

But will it be any different here? If someone starts a rally call to return to Reddit wouldn't that be squashed by the circle-jerky nature of why most of us have migrated here in the first place?

I'm not trying to start that rally cry, I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate. Although I am trying to figure out what really sets Voat apart other than simply being a Reddit alternative.

I'm so tired of hearing that all the Voat users are here because they hate upitty women. They completely discount all of us women who aren't SJWs. Just like FPH was half women. But it's the interwebs so it must be neck beards. Hur dur.

It's one of the things I hate the most about the SJW movement. You can't disagree with someone without them accusing you of being sexist/racist/homophobic/transphobic. I don't dislike what they say because of who they are, I just dislike what they say.

[–] maxoverdrive 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

That's because it's a PR piece, not news. Most of the articles about Voat are written by butt-hurt SJW types who can't stand the thought that an alternative to reddit is gaining traction, one where they don't have much pull. I say "not much", because Atko folded like a 12-year-old girl over the jailbait verses; hopefully he won't pussy out over others, like FPH.

At these moments, Voat draws comparisons to 8chan, another "free speech-friendly" version of a larger platform. 8chan, which grew after informal message board 4chan banned discussion of Gamergate, is also the great hope of people too terrible for an already legendarily offensive community.

I guess we're all just terrible people, guys. Time to hang your heads in shame.

Interesting note: The Verge is owned by Vox Media which, as far as I can tell, is NOT owned by anyone else. This means they are not associated with Advance Publications. I don't agree with the way Adi Robertson describes much of the situation, but she seems to have a responsible, professional article history.

0
45

[–] Roykirk 0 points 45 points (+45|-0) ago

This particular person may have a relatively "responsible, professional article history," but if you follow the Verge and read their articles regarding any recent controversy, it becomes clear that the site has an agenda. They do not perform deep analysis of all perspectives and instead, unfortunately, usually toe the "SJW" party line. They have a definite slant. And it's why I don't give them clicks any longer and dismiss them as a source of any kind of reliable journalism.

So just a warning to read anything on that site with a heavy does of skepticism and to look for the questions they don't ask, the facts they ignore, the context they don't explain, or the perspectives they refuse to acknowledge.

Vox Media lets Ezra Klein, the man who created and ran a private forum where journalists would conspire on what to cover and how, run their flagship Vox website.

they're all scratching each other backs. did you read the NYT piece on why the mods did the blackout. rewriting history, reshaping the narrative from the reality. See search engines don't search out the comment sections for the most part, these websites are basically rewriting history for anyone searching the past and anyone who wasn't there and following it firsthand.

0

[–] maxoverdrive 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Sure she does. Which is why the entire piece read like a bit of SJW propaganda. Sounds to me like she's a fucking cunt.

[–] Occasional_Hypocrite 0 points 20 points (+20|-0) ago

This is frustrating. The article fails to reference the mass shadowbans and removal of legitimate content. Voat references are constantly being removed, TPP references are being removed and Pao posts are being removed. Reading this article, you would think we all left because we really wanted to hate on fat people. This is bullshit. At least they're directing more people to the site, so it's not all bad.

It's honestly a remarkably well executed propaganda effort. I see nothing but people calling Voat users 100% Nazi Stormfront Pedophiles. When from my experience it's mostly disenfranchised people from Reddit for various reasons. For me it is 6 months of TPP discussions being purged and mass unexplained shadowbans of upstanding 5 year users.

The truth would negatively characterize Reddit management rather than negatively characterize Reddit users. You must respect the authorities.

I like it. If there wasn't a good coordinated ever to stop the reddit collapse, than the author would be right and this would be Fall of Digg 2.0. The front page of reddit would be nothing but "Theres this other site called voat and you should all go there". Instead, it acts like a filter to keep the filth out.
