This amounts to recognition that they can't defend rationally defend those ideals, so they want to sweep opposing arguments away.

It's not even that, to me. It's the outright ignoring the evidence in order to promote the ideal that there is no genetic difference in the races. But there are. It's not "right" or "wrong", it just is.

Instead of ignoring this, or rigging tests or dumbing things down to get false results, why not use the data to make specific changes to the curriculum, environment, and material based on this evidence. In other words, instead of ignoring it, and pretending it's not true, make use of the data to make informed decisions. As James Damore mentioned (about 100 times) in his memo, these are averages of a population, and do not reflect on any specific, individual. That last part is the part that these people cannot see past. They just do not get it, probably because they tend to lump everyone in as a single voting bloc, therefore, they are all the same.
