This is a feminist myth, and inaccurate. The vast majority of both FGM and MGM involve the removal of the prepuce, which is analagous tissue in both genders in terms of risk, function and sensitivity. There are more extreme versions of genital mutilation for both genders, but they are much less common for the simple reason that anything which damages your ability to have sex is selected against by evolution.

The only reason these more extreme forms are assumed to be common is because of feminist studies produced by the UN which took their sample from FGM crisis clinics. This is like trying to get a statistic of how many people are infected with HIV by sampling a gay nightclub.
