It's worse than that, I just read the whole article. They can't review all the vids so they can't say safe advertising to the companies. They can't get people to stay because google and facebook have 8 out of 10 top apps which are designed to keep you in their networks. They can't sustain a massive audience because not enough content 'cos no money because no advertisers. Looks to me like the game is sewn up. I wonder who is behind all of this?

Gotta make money to keep something afloat. Those bits are not exactly free to store and serve up. Not even close.

Try running. You're not paying to keep those sites online, you're using adblock, and well, servers and bandwidth cost. The only way those services can stay online is selling stuff everyone provides either way, like metadata and browsing habits. Too bad the companies interested in those are usually (((heinous))). At least they pay.
