No difference between this and tearing down Confederate memorials... Stop trying to erase history.

A country honoring its own history and an invader putting up propaganda pieces are not the same thing.

When a propaganda piece is the last reminder that there was an invader, then yes it is part of history. Move that stuff to a museum.

No they are not. But they are history.

Erasing history is wrong.

add a plaque detailing how horrible communism was

This is so different its mindboggling how some of you goats think to the contrary. Confederate memorials were to American leaders in the Confederacy who were admired by their people. These Communist memorials were put up by invaders.

Shouldn't it remain as a reminder that they got invaded by leftist faggots?

These people are idiots. They think that we should extend all hese rights and privilleages to our enemies, who A. Would never do the same to us. And B. Take extreme advantage of it and use ir to push the worst shit possible.

id leave it up but subvert it- i.e if its a statue of a marxist youd put your own statute up that has a gun pointed to the marxists head.

such a severe existential threat shouldnt be simply swept away, otherwise you leave your future generations venerable to it.

It's not erasing history in either case, it's refusing to glorify particular participants in it. The purpose of a bronze statue of a historical person isn't to say "by the way, this thing happened," it's to say "these guys were amazing and we should look up to them."

My problem with them tearing the confederate statues down is that they're trying to revise history as some morality play with the union on the side of good and the confederates on the side of evil, which isn't accurate. Also, the ones who want them taken down are often a fringe minority.

By contrast, the soviets genuinely were evil little shits, and they sure as hell don't represent the community those statues are located in.

That's entirely too dogmatic.

A shame. This is not history that should be forgotten or buried. The rise and fall of communism was one of the most important events of the past century and not something that should be swept under the rug merely because it is unpleasant. Also they look cool and have a unique aesthetic.

Under that logic, Nazi monuments would have deserved the same kind of credit. They are a symbol that glorifies decades of oppression and Soviet crimes against the peoples of Eastern Europe. If they belong anywhere at all except the garbage heap of history alongside communism, then it would be in museums and maybe military graveyards; definitely not in city centers.

Under your logic this would also mean erasing all confederate memorials and memorials to people who owned slaves.

Erasing history is wrong. A memorial can also be seen as a reminder.

Safe places ate the path of the devil and ING-soc.

Last I checked both auschwitz and the autobahn were still standing. They even added to it.

While I get the hatred of such an evil thing as communism, it's not good to erase all memory of it.

Maybe make a drag queen statue of Lenin.

They could always replace them with statues commemorating the victims of communism.

Just add to every Lenin statue 4-5 dudes with bats surrounding him.

I don't like this any more than removing civil war monuments, but I also hate communism. Huh. Having morals and standards and shit is tough. No wonder kids these days don't have them.

ITT people seem to be split between tearing them down or preserving history.

How about they collect them all up in one place and create some new monument from them representing the expulsion of communism from Poland.

Or put them in a museum dedicated to communist atrocities. The Berlin wall museum has some bits of the original death-strip preserved.

What was the death strip?

removing a statue does not in any form remove the plague of Communism- if it did I would be all for it- but it doesn't.

It belongs in a museum!

Fuck communism but fuck revisionism even more. I don't care what the statue is of or who wants to remove it, stop trying to change history you stupid faggots.

How is this revisionism in any way shape or form? Removing a statue of stalin isn't a statement that stalin didn't exist.

[–] unclejimbo 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

No but if the sculpture itself is of good quality I'd leave it for the sake of the artist living under communism who probably had no choice what to make a statue of.
