And drinking in public in a moslem country. Risky. I used to go out to the hotel bars over there. I didn't drink. Everyone else did. Guys pissing in the Burger King drive-thru. Guys fighting in the bars. Picking up hookers. Guys getting in drunken accidents. Had a bunch of guys get busted for hash. The contractors involved got a MAC flight out quickly after paying a $5000 fine. A few military guys involved got NJP'd. Being attached to the military got you off of the harsh punishments but with a large fine, a CID escort to the airport, and a lifetime ban from GCC countries. One K-9 contractor took out a bunch of military guys, got them wasted. One guy was puking behind the barriers in the search lane, while another was pissing on the barriers. They got pulled over driving on the base. Out of the humvee comes the MP's with a breathalyzer. K-9 dude failed. He transfered to Iraq and was making $12,000 per month. All the military guys got NJPd.

Nah. Dubai has special tourist zones where sharia doesn't apply and you're allowed to drink openly.

Yes. Why even go to these hellhole countries?

Consider the insanity of this sentence. Then realize that he could get 15 years in prison for just viewing certain right wing websites back home in (what used to be) his country.

You can go to prison in America for smoking a plant that's politically unacceptable.

I would never go to that shithole unless it was war.

I tried and failed to picture a scenario of grabbing some guys hip to avoid spilling a drink, article doesn't explain any further than the title, suspect a faggot got grabby.

I thought it was a weird scenario too.

Best I can come up with is like a balance thing or the guy was backing up and he had to quickly stop him so he put his waist high hand on the guys waist somewhow to stop the dude from backing up.

I won't say it's impossible but seems rather unlikely. Still wouldn't stop it from possibly being a case of a liar getting an innocent man put in jail if the waist thing isn't true.

The accuser is probably some one important, like a judge, or a member of the royal family.

I'm thinking, holding his drink in his right hand, guy on his right staggers towards him, so he moves his left hand across his body to block him from hitting the drink arm.

It does sound like a weird excuse though.

I believe there is more to the story. Dubai is dependant on tourism and there are a LOT of tourists and expats there daily. Nobody would go there if people are regularly thrown in jail for stupid shit like this. They just kick you out of you are drunk in the public place and cause a scene. Meaning, the guy must have been "grabby" in all of his drunken confidence and the hip may not be just a hip. Maybe they used the closest body part in description to save the victim from embarrassment. Do not take everything you read at face value.

Scot given three-month jail sentence for touching Dubai man's hip

"A British man has been sentenced to three months in prison in Dubai for touching a man's hip in a bar, according to campaigners."

'Campaign group Detained in Dubai (DiD) said he was sentenced to three months imprisonment at court on Sunday but lawyers plan to appeal. ', "Jamie Harron, from Stirling, was arrested in July over the incident in which he said he put his hand on a man's hip to avoid spilling a drink in a crowded bar."

'After his arrest for public indecency he lost his job and was told he could have faced up to three years in jail. '

'The group said Mr Harron is "angry, disappointed, and dreads what may happen next". '

Would've been 6 months if he spilled it on him! Nice save!! Must be quite the thrill seeker to be drinking in a muslim country....
