I love this idea, but don't understand the timing. Did the politicians vote to remove the statue just prior to an election day? If so they are stupid for not delaying that vote. In most cases the public forgets stuff like this because it happens a year before election day

Small towns don't forget so easily. They see their representatives in person day to day and talk to each other about the town's news and gossip for a long time. Longer news cycle, fewer distractions.

Which is why government ought to stay small and local. Greater accountability and more direct representation. When your vote is one of millions, it means dick. When your vote is one of a thousand, and you can sway ten people, you're 1% of the vote.

You have real accountability in small towns. People inherently know you and where you live. You could get your ass kicked for being a dick. Fuck over the people and they're ate your doorstep, they are everywhere you go.
