I've read Hemingway. I don't share his romanticism of senseless violence.

edit: unless it's fictional violence. I'm not crazy.

Me either, but I value his descriptive powers, because they enable me to experience second-hand what I otherwise would not have the opportunity to understand. His descriptions of the bullfights as they were in their pure and most brutal form are an invaluable resource, especially if one wishes to change a culture that is hundreds of years old. Death in the Afternoon, in particular shed a lot of light on the subject for me. I too hate to see animals suffer.

Okay, I understand what you're saying now. Yeah, I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading Hemingway.
