Robert E Lee was not a slave owner. Lincoln was. After the war the white house still had slaves working there for Mrs Lincoln.

The last state to abolish slavery was New York in 1908. They had a fucking pygmy in a zoo.

Robert E Lee welcomed former slaves into his church. There was a giant pushback from the north because of all the former slaves moving up there.

The Civil War is one of the most misunderstood events in US history. The vast majority of the South had nothing to do with slavery. That was something only the rich, and frequently northern rich, participated in.

Of course there were over a million Irish slaves, also, but ya never hear a fucking peep about the white slaves.

False that Abraham Lincoln or his wife owned slaves although Mary Todd's family did. Robert E Lee inherited slaves but opposed slavery as 'a moral and political evil' and freed his family's slaves in 1862. Ulysses Grant also owned a personal slave that he freed in 1859 as well as inherited family slaves that were not freed until 1865. At the peak of slavery in the U.S. it was still only 2% of households that owned slaves and by 1860 that was down to 1.4%.

No groups or nations have done as much to abolish slavery around the world as white Christians and the United States. Slavery is still widely practiced around the world and particularly in Africa today. For example in countries like Mauritania more than 4% of the population or 156,000 people live as slaves today. Anywhere in the world Islam is practiced you will find slavery.

Interesting. I knew it was low, but I had no idea how low. Slavery was definitely dying by then though, most European nations were banning it and boycotting nations which permitted it, so it's days were numbered. Even if the civil war had been about slavery it would have been an enormous waste of lives.

No groups or nations have done as much to abolish slavery around the world as white Christians and the United States.

Well, possibly the UK, but they're about the only one.

Lincoln never had slaves, didn't believe in slavery and there were no slaves in the WH.

patently false. They called them indentured servants, which was the same fucking thing.

Lincoln would have preserved slavery if he could. Fact is he tried taxing the South into oblivion, but realized the only way to preserve the Union was through force.

They had a fucking pygmy in a zoo.

Holy shit, that's hilarious.

Also, I had no idea Lincoln owned slaves. I did know he represented owners of runaway slaves in court though.

Of course there were over a million Irish slaves, also, but ya never hear a fucking peep about the white slaves.

Yeah, they're awful quiet about that. Cromwell essentially emptied huge sections of the Irish population into Barbados and Jamaica. In theory they were convicts or indentured labourers with a limited time of servitude, but in practice they were slaves for life.

They had Sarah Baartman in a "Human Zoo". She had Steatopygia aka Hottentot Virus an Archaic Gene because Congoids are 150,000 years less laterally evolved. She had that big booty the nogs like abnormally large pussy lips and long nips.

Slavery and indentured servitude are not the same. One is a permanent, hereditary condition. The other has a legally binding limit and is not passed down to one's children.

As usual in history, the horrible people write it.

I really hope I can be there for the re-dedication ceremony.

But of course, Franklin is mostly populated by... overweight, white trash, hillbilly-mentality, mush-mouthed, tobacco-spitting, double-digit IQ, lazy, unskilled, lowered-expectation, mouth-breathing, talk-like-a-banjo morons who will take a day off work to attend the Grand Opening of the town's fifth Dollar General store in between the payday loan store, the scratch-off lottery ticket store, and the laundromat (sorry, in Franklinese it is the "Laundrymat.")

Those who attend the ceremony will probably wonder why they didn't have it at the car warsh, and why they never actually saw the orange Charger (circus 1969)

(I left out "baby-killing" because there's only been like a dozen or so of them who have been convicted of beating their kids to death, or holding them in scalding water until they die, or burying the freshly-born fetus in the back yard over the past year, so not really fair to group them all together into that description.)

I don't know about "well" acquainted... I worked there for about 4 years, but was commuting from another, more cultured, town.

Franklin, Eaton, Gratis, Drexel, Camden... Theses are like little comets in the local solar system, only instead of being collections of dust that stuck together and ultimately formed large masses of rock, these towns are collections of large-massed people who stick together and attract more large people... and somehow, the total IQ of each town remains constant. Apparently the mass of massive people is enough that it sucks IQ points away from new people.

Just keep in mind, they can potentially be useful idiots. Perhaps we can start a colony of proper white men and inspire them out of their funk? Besides, it could be worse, like Middletown or Hamilton.

this is the most government shit ive ever heard in my life. they remove the statues to create work and then put them back to create more work. and then they pat themselves on the back: SEE look at all the jobs we create! they subscribe to the broken window fallacy like no one else

I grew up there and never knew about the monument. The strange part is Ohio was a union state.

[–] ScreaminMime 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Yeah, I don't see why Union states would erect monuments to defeated opponents.

It was erected by the Sisters of the Confederacy, a female branch of the KKK.

Have you been to Franklin lately? 12% of 2017's graduating class were able to start their careers at the strip club the day after graduation (sorry - gradulation) and most of the rest are still waiting on that magical phone call from Wal Mart or Speedway. The two that went to business college have not been seen since the business college shut down and they turned it back into a hardware store.

Haven't been to Dayton for years. I know they tore down my old high school (Belmont) . But I assume integration ruined the place like most schools. (I graduated before they started that crap)

If we can't honor Robert E. Lee, who can we honor? He was one of the greatest and best human beings who ever lived.
