A Pakistani Christian woman is facing a death sentence for drinking water out of the same cup used by her Muslim co-workers.

Not sentenced yet

It's the middle east yo. Still bullshit, but this bullshit goes on all the time there. Looks like they could use some Freedom.

But still, I'm of the school "no body, no execution." The fact that there are laws on the books like this are just wrong.

I'd point out, like, y'know, that there're some really fuckin' weird laws still on the books in various US states, but that'd be really disingenuous because, unlike blasphemy laws in shithole countries, they're never enforced and would probably instantly be chucked the second someone tried to use 'em.

For those who want better context:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r7owofwEDA It seems that the conflict occurred when Asia Bibi (a Christian woman) was working in a field with some Muslim men, when she dipped her cup into the shared water bucket, after which the Muslim men refused any more water from the bucket as it had been "tainted" for being touched by a non Muslim. In response Asia Bibi uttered "your prophet had worms in his mouth when he died" a crude way of saying Mohammed was no prophet. She is now lies in prison awaiting a potential death sentence over that, just another example of Pakistan's absolutely disgusting blasphemy laws which have been shown over and over again as being used to persecute religious minorities and settle personal feuds and scores.

Is there any more to the basis for this story? I spent years in Saudi Arabia and shared food, utensils, cups, etc with Muslims all the time. This looks like it's about blasphemy not cup sharing...

Story

"Noreen was accused of blasphemy in June 2009 when she was working picking fruit in the fields of Ittanwali village, Sheikhupura. In the scorching heat, she drank water from a common bucket and offered it to her Muslim co-workers. Some of them refused the water saying it had become ‘unclean’ after handled by a Christian. She was told that her state of ‘impurity’ could be lifted if she converted to Islam. A verbal clash broke out between Noreen and her co-workers after which she was accused of blasphemy and handed to the police."

So there's the real angle. It's NOT really about her unholy backwash, that's just the start for some verbal slapfight, resulting in one or more of her co-workers they're claiming she shittalked Islam. Still bullshit, but it's not about devil cooties.

Fox hasn't been getting much attention lately, but always remember they're just as clickbait as any other sensationalist online troll.

I must confess that I experience a momentary but completely non-religious, homicidal thought or two when I spot a co-worker drinking out of my coffee cup at the office. It's got my name on it for Christ sake.
