I think their giving up had more to do with the futility of trying to restrict cipher export, I mean PGPi got around it by printing code into books, then sending the books overseas, then OCR'ing it.

Yeah I remember reading about that. Basically invoking 2nd amendment protection.

1st Amendment. Anyway, the govt's seeming inability to crack TC containers gives me enough faith in modern crypto. Unless those public cases have been some sort of ruse.
