The fact that NSA gave up on restricting cipher export in the 90s has always led me to believe that most forms of modern cryptography have been compromised. That's my tinfoil hat theory at least.

I think their giving up had more to do with the futility of trying to restrict cipher export, I mean PGPi got around it by printing code into books, then sending the books overseas, then OCR'ing it.

Yeah I remember reading about that. Basically invoking 2nd amendment protection.

EDIT: 1st Amendment, sorry I completely forgot 4th grade.
