Maybe /v/meanwhileonreddit or /v/redditinaction? Not /v/news.. This isn't news.

I still can't upvote upvoat, but I would if I could. This is a reminder for future me :)

This gives a whole new meaning to the saying "I wish I had more upvoats to give".

You'll be able to upvoat soon!

I thought it was only downvotes that were limited until you had a hundred 'upgoats'.

This is probably the most non-news-related reddit post I've seen. Usually I don't care as it's kind of tech news (Pao now being a big tech topic) but this is just trying to get people back on reddit to...not go to reddit? Totally lost and totally agree with you.

When I get downvoat powers, anything with the word "Reddit" is getting hit.

[–] klongtoey 0 points 11 points (+11|-0) ago

that would be supporting reddit.

If that's what you want to use your downvotes on, you probably shouldn't have them.

Make sure to come back and "hit" your own comment then. Gotta be equal opportunity. ;)

I agree. On a related note, am I missing something, or is there no way to "report" posts on voat other than just messaging the mods and pasting a link?

0
6

[–] DrPandemicPhD 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

That's it for now - which as I see it is good at this stage of Voat as if you could openly report posts the reddit DDOS brigades could also just spam the site with reported links the mods would have to trudge through.

[–] ezdi 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

I don't think so. I'm told even the "report spam" button does not actually do anything here.

Hopefully VOAT will be stable by then. I'd hate to see a new wave come and go because they can't log in.

VOAT is still lacking some of the breadth and depth of posts when compared to the other site. Please make it a point to post news and articles of interest, especially for special interest subs.

I'm sure that Voat knows about the "blackout" date(s) so hopefully they've already started preparing their servers for it.

0

[–] AVX 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I could so see it happening though, can't you? A large bunch of people on their day off who would otherwise have been on Reddit, all coming over to Voat. If they're smart/have the money, Voat will ramp up its servers for the 10th, though I know that's easy to say.

0

[–] Shoma 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

You're right about that. If as many people follow the blackout as we may anticipate, Voat will definitely have its hands full.

[–] bankdank 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Lets hope they are able to handle the traffic. ITs definetly a tough loss telling someone to try out voat and then you find out the site is down :/

[–] DrPandemicPhD 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Meh - Voat was down for like 3 days after I decided to switch, barely got my account registered, and then just waited it out. I think people actually invested in switching to Voat will wait out the growing pains. If the impatient people see it's slow / down and run off back to reddit, so be it in my opinion.

I agree but it doesn't make it any less annoying when you can't get on voat. I've been persevering, not loading that red place and going without my fix but how many people go to load it, can,t and go straight back to that other place.

Am i missing something here? Its a blackout not a migration.

0
1

[–] tehgeek 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

The idea though is that the 9x% of people that have no idea what is going on are going to see the blackout and find a new site (Voat).

[–] treborsel 0 points 23 points (+23|-0) ago

I am okay with not whoring VOAT out on Re... That Other Place. I feel the message of this wonderful place has been spread around over there. Those that have wanted to come over are here already. I think we should build this place up on our own. People will find us naturally. This should not be the "Let's Screw Pao" site. I like Voat. Let the trolls and lurkers stay there. But, that is just my opinion.

[–] Victini 0 points 10 points (+10|-0) ago

I feel as though just trying to get everyone on reddit to come over here will a) ensure noone uses voat for at least the duration of the blackout, if not much longer

b) possibly succeed in everyone on reddit coming over here so we can have a shitty community on this site as well.

[–] Jord 0 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago  (edited ago)

Exactly.

Let's build voat for what it should be, a unique community that isn't solely based on stealing from reddit because of the whole Pao business. Voat is something different and has the capability to be big and unique, so let's help it get there :)

I don't think that they could ever possibly migrate entirely. I think that people will most likely just continue to use both sites. I think lots of people are totally unaffected by the recent changes at reddit, and it's the vocal minority that are calling for migration. that being said, the vocal minority over there is kinda comprised of shitheads, so idk maybe they should just stay at reddit

Voldemort.com

Basically. I think the idea is not to further spread the name and thus continue powering its apparent relevance in searches and such.

What's Reddit?

Edit: This is sarcasm and my attempt to show you that I have forgotten about it already because Voat seems to be a nice place so far. I've longed for a nice place to post my nerdity and have interesting discussions with people who can actually spell and use English properly.

IRC really. I haven't been on in so long with voat unstable and reddit just going down the internet tubes, I went back to what I did back in the late 90's .

Text, for those that choose not to reward redditt with a click.

Hello,

I would like to suggest using this thread as a springboard to circulate reminders about the blackout on Friday July 10th an extensions for the weekend. So July 10th (two days from now) is the big day, secondary goals are to go until the 12th. I have to work into the evening tonight so I will not be able to spearpoint the charge however my suggestions are:

-Develop a comment here that concisely explains the grievances and explains the strike. We will link to that comment from other subs and comments on the site.

-Provide voat.co and other sites (empeopled?) as alternatives.

-Do not try to submit stories about this they will just get removed. Instead try to latch onto top comments and remind people about the upcoming strike.

-Also we should link to this sub for more info.

-Should mention the change.org petition with 210k signatures.

-Encourage other subs to go dark again and host a message about what #blackout2015 is and link here.

If we start doing this today into tomorrow across the site that will be our best bet. Good luck sisters and brethren, viva la reddolution aka #blackout2015

I'm not because /v/freenas has 3 subscribers.... /v/plex has 49... and so on.

A lot of my niche subreddits are significantly more niche here.

I'm having the same problem and I can't see any reason why niche communities would migrate any time soon.
