russia is on china's side
Of course they are ...NOW! The Congress and Senate have ensured that. Both Political parities have painted the Russians as some arch evil dedicated to the destruction of the USA. Well, that made sense during the Cold War when Russia was the central state of a Communist System. BUT NOT TODAY.
II presented an alternate path where Russia would be aligned with the USA. It is based on the statements of shared common cause as stated by then Candidate, Donald Trump. Note that this window is not totally closed but it requires positive actions from the USA toward Russia. That our political class can't see our need for such an alliance is the greatest tragedy.

Why is this support of the Jihadists STILL happening under President Trump? There is no acceptable excuse for this.
And we still do this siding with the wrong side EVEN as we may enter a war with N.Korea and CHINA? INSANE!
Imagine if the USA had done the right thing all along or repaired relations with Russia after the Trump election. Wow, Right? We would actually have Russia as a potential ally instead of as an antagonized enemy.
Heads are going to have to roll over all of this support for the Jihad in Syria.
Israeli desires to undermine its neighbor has eliminated an important strategic partner (Russia/Syria) for the USA as it moves into the 21st century. That will end up costing the USA lives and wealth and the Israeli lobby is going to have to pay a price for this.
The 21st Century is marked by the polarization of Secularism vs Islamism and Nationalism vs Globalism. Socially, we have the polarization of Individualism vs Collectivism. Whichever party picks these distinctions up will find a way forward. Supporting Secular Nationalism, patriotism based on Nationalist values while emphasizing Individualism, equality of opportunity and personal liberty will be the winning ticket if these value positions can be adequately expressed.
I predict that the Conflicts of the 21st century will be over values and not resources. Contrasting Nationalist Patriotism with the Globalism and the Collectivist "Equity" agenda with its Identity Politics, will engender massive popular support. Supporting the Secular Nationalist desires of like-minded Syria and Russia only makes sense when one sees that shared values, themselves, can and should be the basis for a new and powerful set of coalitions.
Think about it. There are literally almost no resources that justify a global conflict today. Oil and Gas? NO WAY! That means that deeper, philosophical concerns over democracy and the role of the individual, over national aspirations, will play as the central focus for partnerships moving forward. This needs to be the new conversation, not the rehashed and inappropriate harping on defunct Cold War concerns.

We do Israel's bidding. Why else would we have troops in the middle east?

Clearly. The other tragedy is that the USA has not used its influence to help craft an alliance between SECULAR Assad and Israel.
