To be fair, while I happen to disagree with the FBI on releasing this information, I don't think their reason is that "the public isn't interested". When they say public interest, I believe they are suing public interest as a compound noun, not a noun verb combination. Whether the information being made public is in the public interest or not is independent of whether anyone in the public is interested in seeing the information.

I believe they're saying less "We don't think you'd be interested in this information." and more "Your self-appointed betters have decided that knowing this information would not be in your best interests. Now fuckoff and go back to staring at the idiot-box, plebs."
