While I do not in any way condone the topic of this guy's tweet, I must support his right to say it without retribution. Any attack on free speech must be contested. How many of us here hold controversial opinions? Simply because he supports the other side of the aisle, does not mean that he does not deserve the same protections that we all are afforded for our opinions. They are words, mere words.

Now, if he had gone into his classroom and said this to his students, that would be a different story. Just like if I came to work and walked around calling everyone a niggerfaggot all day. Obviously, I can't do that at work, but off the clock, away from work, I can say whatever the fuck I want. This guy is no different. He wasn't saying this in his classroom. He didn't tweet out from some public UT twitter. He was off the clock, away from work. He can say whatever the fuck he wants.

Man, ten years ago I would have agreed whole heartedly with you on this but I can't anymore. For my entire adult life the right has taken the 'high ground' and the only thing that happens is they get pushed around.

Free speech in the constitution only protects against the government but for most of our history there has been a societal agreement that free speech as a philosophy be honored in the rest of society, they stopped allowing that so the only opinions being heard were that of the left, it effectively silenced the right by going after people's jobs.

Only recently has the alt-right been fighting back online and in that short time they have made tremendous gains culturally just by adopting the left's tactics.

We're past the point of civil discourse.

The constitution did not give me any rights. I don't have to ask the government for permission. Freedom of speech is an unalienable right. That means it is not to be separated, given away, or taken away. It is not capable of being repudiated. I don't have rights because the government says it's okay for me to. The government was created to protect my rights that already existed. We cannot allow a precedent to be set where sharing your opinion online gets you fired just because someone else in the company doesn't like it.

This. Everyone should be free to say stupid things.

He is completely free to say stupid things, and those around him are free to chose whether or not they wish to be around such idiocy. The college employment board obviously thought they didn't.

1) You have freedom of speech

2) You do NOT have freedom from consequences of that speech.

But the levels of stupidity is monumental. Professor of a College. Tasked with educating and provided trust not normally given. Sure, he's free to speak his mind, but situational awareness. If he was an athlete and the badmouthed the endorsements that pay them.

Fire the moron. He's demonstrated he's too stupid to be a professor.

Sure! It is why I do not mind if Antifa protests. They are their own worse enemies. They will destroy themselves so we do not need to help them.

Gotta wonder if the school thought that such a person who holds such opinions shouldn't be influencing the minds of young minds.

/shrug....I'll let the other leftists fight for his rights, we gotta protect our own.

This is the table that the left has set, now they are just being made to eat off it.

This needs to happen for it to sink in to these faggots that with speech it is either ALL ok, or NONE of it is ok.

The Jews behind that iconoclasm never thought free speech was acceptable. They understand the power of ideas and speech too well. Freedom of speech was a uniquely English, even specifically Colonial English concept.

Now dead.

As stated in other forks, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences.
