If you set out to organize people on a spectrum of "individualist" to "collectivist", would that really form a horseshoe/continuum? I.e. do extreme individualists really begin to look like extreme collectivists? I don't think they do in any meaningful way.

Not in terms of their individualism/collectivism, but they would in other respects. For example a capitalist individualist might have more in common with a nationalist than an anarcho-egoist

So individualist/collectivist is a one-dimensional political spectrum. What about authoritarian/libertarian? Would those two ever meet?
