Can you really call it living if you cannot feel alive?
Honest question. Even if this treatment works and his life is extended, I wonder how much of a life that child can look forward to, or even if he has enough of a mind left to look forward to anything. Poor thing.
You might be thinking about the different types of this disease. I haven't read of a single case of an infant with the same condition as Charlie, turning out okay. They were all dead within a year, sadly.
But I am not medical expert. This is just what I have read up on regarding infantile onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome.
Perhaps, but the way I see it the kid can at least be used as a guinea pig. They might not be able to save him, but they may learn valuable information about the disease and maybe even the very nature of DNA.
Mother of Terminally Ill British Baby Child Charlie Gard Says Trump, Pope Attention 'Saved' Son - NBC News
'LONDON — The mother of a terminally ill baby has said her son still has a chance of surviving thanks to the interventions of U.S. President Donald Trump and Pope Francis. '
'The official also said the president wants to be helpful without placing undue pressure on the family. '
'The child’s parents have fought to raise $1.8 million to bring him to the United States for experimental treatment they believe could help. '
'On Sunday, Republican Congressmen Brad Wenstrup and Trent Franks called for the child to be given U.S. residency so he can undergo treatment in America. '
'The case is due to be heard at the High Court in London later on Monday. '

It's their baby, how can the government deny them possession of their own baby?

Probably inappropriate, and definitely off-topic, but doesn't the father look like a less handsome version of voat's very own celebrity @VivaFrei?

There's more to life than just surviving.

At this point that kid is a political toy and nothing more. That's what's most sad about the situation.

There have been a few other cases with children having the same disease and turning out okay (so far).

That's not your decision to make.

What decision? Where in that entire comment, did I even remotely suggest a decision was being made and that I was going to be the one to make it?
