That racism alone should be enough for our political leaders to take a serious look at what is going on in the national security apparatus but I'm afraid nothing will be done. The culture of power and fear is a strong one in this country.

I think Greenwald was smart to specifically name these people and meet with them. These are people who have the means to do something about it - file lawsuits, drum up opposition, and get media coverage.

If Greenwald had instead dumped a raw list of people who have hourly jobs and can't afford lawyers, I don't think we would have seen as much coverage as I hope we will.

The targeting and associated comments are patently racist, which will easily divide people and politicians away from supporting the NSA. Nobody wants to be publicly associated with racists, especially in political circles. It's the easiest and quickest way to lose support with the public.

I think lawsuits will be what makes the most difference initially, at least until we find a new Frank Church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_Committee) and a congress able (or willing) to work.
