Since they've been pulling propaganda for the left, for the most part, for quite a while, I'm OK with this .

Even if they had done nothing buy paint kittens and daisies, there's still no good reason for governments to be funding art.

Plus money shouldn't be going into people's personal projects. If you have media you want to make, make it. That's your responsibility. It's not ours.

What about all the congressional pet projects that involve the military industrial complex?

NPR exists only so that dumb, stuck-up cunts can pretend they know what they're talking about when rational discussion on a topic occurs.

Exactly. The left got beyond greedy and now a lot of things I would normally be supportive of need to get shut down.

The federal government shouldn't be funding any privately owned companies in the first place. The federal government isn't designed to be a lending institution, and the citizenry aren't meant to be their source of lendable tender. The federal government is supposed to be for the people and by the people.

But if you removed the funding people will lose their jobs!

That is likely true, however it is also likely that by removing the funding taxes could be reduced and everyone would be better off. The greater good outweighs the temporary suffering of the few.

Edit: If you like this comment you should check out The Law. Otherwise you should still check out the book as you are letting your schooling get in the way of your education.

"National Public Radio" implies that NPR shouldn't be a private company to begin with

I am in agreement with the defunding. Our country is supposed to default to the rights of individual. The greater good argument is how we ended up funding these institutions and ended up with various bureaucratic agencies who rule through decree and deny individual rigbts.

So we should also stop the funding, grants, and subsidies for companies like GM? The federal government throws millions into private companies.

Billions. And yes, we should. We should also stop funding other countries by cutting off all aid, stop funding non profits, stop granting tax exemptions, dramatically lower taxes across the board, and send our defense bill to NATO.

Nor will Aids puppet theater (to avoid the usual lawsuit threats, lets pretend I am taking about Kami). Perhaps Sesame Street can some day be recognized as part of the cultural inspiration behind other activities involving animal costumes.

Holy shit, I thought you were joking, as in "that meme gave me aids/cancer." They actually made a HIV positive muppet?

Like... I get using puppets to teach kids important lessons about serious issues, but do we really need aids education for preteens?

To be fair, I see no reason these organizations need to exist. I kinda like NPR, but if it's worth having, the populace will choose to pay for it.

But that's not the only agency being cut:

African Development Foundation

Appalachian Regional Commission

Chemical Safety Board

Corporation for National and Community Service

Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Delta Regional Authority

Denali Commission

Institute of Museum and Library Services

Inter-American Foundation

U.S. Trade and Development Agency

Legal Services Corporation

National Endowment for the Arts

National Endowment for the Humanities

Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation

Northern Border Regional Commission

Overseas Private Investment Corporation

U.S. Institute of Peace

U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness

Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

I'm not really happy to see the Chemical Safety Board on the chopping block. Also, while we may be strengthening our southern boarder, it looks like we've decided to weaken the northern one...ya know, how the 9/11 hijackers came into the country.

Second time around he would go to his closet for his 2nd amendment

yoda much?

lets try

It is immoral to fund the viewpoints of others with taxes taken with the force of a gun

so eliminate Guns? I do not think that is what you meant.

The other option is to eliminate funding for all viewpoints.

Or maybe sell off PBS and NPR to Fox News? or maybe Breitbart?

Reminds me of a political fundraising firm I used to work for. We made the actual direct mail you get. "Thank you for being a member and helping us fund our project. Please give us more money so we can grow our member base."

[–] ravensedgesom 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I'm convinced that their incessant pledges for donations during their bland and substandard programming is barely put into their content or production quality. Also the foundation money just makes them another propaganda arm parroting more establishment serving narratives. Bury the niggers.

[–] fcsuper 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Well to be fair on this point, this isn't something they wanted to do. It is a result of the previous major cut to their funding. There was a time that they actually focused on learning, science and comparatively conservative and by-the-numbers economic and political shows; where public fundraising was only done once every six months. A well-funded PBS would actually be free of most special interest influences.

Not that long ago I might have agreed with you, but I don't think so anymore. There are a decent number of science oriented YouTubers I enjoy watching. And they regularly produce content on next to no budget. I think this argument that they'd be better if they just had more money is a nonstarter. They receive $27 million a year from the government alone - ignoring the large donations they get from various corporations. That's $74,000 a day, $2.25 million a month. How many science oriented youtubers could you buy for $2million per month? Way more than enough to provide 24/7 content. Leaving $250,000/month for additional costs and for the team that stitches it all together, organizes it, and puts out schedules.

And of course I'm using YouTuber here more as an metaphor for general education enthusiasts capable of making interesting videos. There are a practically endless supply of people creating content that is really I think at least comparable to the heyday of programs like Nova. I think we get so desensitized to huge numbers that we forget how ridiculously much money, in real terms, is spent on things like this.
