We cannot allow any type of corruption even if it comes from those we support. Jason Chaffetz on Twitter said "What she did was wrong, wrong, wrong. Here is our bi-partisan letter to the White House and OGE."

Trump and Co. need to be more conscious of this for sure. The optics are horrible.

I'm disappointed they tried to do this shit so quickly.... Goddamn it people this is why we need balance... they whole system is clunking around right now because everything sloshed back to one of the parties.... this shit needs to be balanced out as soon as possible. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, no exceptions, that means even Trump could corrupt himself if he blocks or doesn't ensure there be balance implemented correctly. "correctly" being the hard part.

Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, there was a balance in the parties. Afterwards, conservative Democrats fled the Democratic party for the Republican party, and more liberal & progressive Republicans fled from the influx of ex-Southern Dems to the Democratic party. Now our political parties are unbalanced, and politics have turned into a football game.

I agree with George Washington's view that we should have nothing to do with party politics and should just run & vote on issues instead. Our dumb asses refused to listen to reason.

Chaffetz is a globalist never-trumper. Don't trust a word this fuck says.

[–] powerpete 2 points 9 points (+11|-2) ago

Nope. He didn't stand with trump during the election because of the republican ingroup. Now that Trump has won, Chaffetz is closer to Trump than most of the other members of the oversight committee. Chaffetz role, as chairperson, is to call them as he sees them. He was the one who was spearheading Benghazi and the Clinton email investigation.

I've watched dozens of hours of footage from the Oversight committee and Chaffetz is almost always the sharpest person in the room. The only one who comes close is Trey Gowdy.

All I can think is that anyone upvoting this Kardashian-level crap is a shill or a bot.

This is literally the silliest, weakest shit that has gone down in the past several months. The fact that THIS pablum is what Shitfetz is focusing on tells me he's a McCain-level criminal.

If the report is accurate then those quotes certainly are ethical violations. We should be concerned with the proper running of the country, not whether or not it suits Trump's family's personal interests.

I'm pro-USA, and I suspect if your downvoaters thought about it they'd realize they are too. That's why they like Trump.

This was bad form from Kellyanne.

I often think Trey Gowdy and Jason Chaffetz should go for presidential runs, but I have to remind myself that they are doing necessary work where they are.

As great as Trey Gowdy is, I don't think he'd be very good as President. However, I'd love to see him as Attorney General or head of the ODNI.

Nah, you keep a pit bull doing what a pit bull does best, chew on some poor fucker's balls. Gowdy's the South Carolina pit bull.

If it were up to me I would give the nod to Gowdy. He has a law degree and Chaffetz has a communications degree.

I'm not denigrating Chaffetz for his education. He really impresses me, but Gowdy is the more scholarly representative.

This is a fair point. A fashion line does seem like kind of a trivial case, but it's certainly fair to bring it up and make it known that this isn't desirable behavior.

All true but it could be worse, if it was President Popeil we would all be stuck with a pocket fisherman and a Showtime rotisserie.

It was trivial to Conway I guess, because she didn't seem to have any knowledge that it was unethical. This is a good thing to happen because it puts all of everyone on notice that they need to learn what ethical means. It's been so long, people have forgotten.

She has a JD from George Washington University. I'm sure she'd know that you can't use her public position to promote a close friend's products. It's not rocket science.

Exactly, as head of the Oversight committee, he is just doing his job. This will be a slap on the wrist. We will likely see a few of these cases with Trump's team as they lack the political nuance of the previous cabinets.

[–] kneo24 2 points 15 points (+17|-2) ago

In the grand scheme of things, what she did probably wasn't that big of a deal as long as it's a one time only thing. On the other hand, we need to ensure we don't allow any types of shenanigans like this from anyone in public office. I'm on board with this letter.

[–] sinjinsmythe 6 points -2 points (+4|-6) ago

I call bullshit. She fucked up royally and violated the rules. The rules are there for a reason, and those who violate should be fully held accountable. Conway should resign, period. Sorry, holding the government officials accountable means all of them, not giving passes just because this or that reason. Everyone has a reason, still a violation and must be punished.

[–] kneo24 2 points 1 points (+3|-2) ago

You do realize that if every politician ever resigned for any breach of ethics rules, we'd have zero politicians? They aren't perfect people. Small violations like this that are a one time thing as of right now aren't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Cool your jets.

Nope. Negative. The government's job is to help push US products. Her mistake was in pushing a product that has a conflict of interest element. Let's rein it in partner, she didn't fuckin' shoot a guy.

I don't know what the fuck she was thinking. I support Trump, I support the people in his administration, but you have to follow the rules. Trump campaigned on bringing Law and Order. It applies to everyone.

[–] FuckYouReddit- 1 points 3 points (+4|-1) ago

This is what happens when every comment isn't vetted, screened, poll-tested and analyzed to death. a.k.a what the Clinton WH would be doing. Honesty in politics often brings honest mistakes.

It's still weird though. I signed an ethics contract and NDA when I joined my current corporation. I'm not allowed to speak to the media unless explicitly authorized, I can't advertise any products while working as an agent of the company, and I can't commit any unethical behaviors, or I'll be terminated. These sorts of contracts are common in my industry. It's weird to me that she has never encountered one and thus didn't know this rule applied, even in government.

I think this might be intentional 5D chess.

Trump goes out of his way to tweet about his daughter's business. Kellyanne is also told to make a minor ethical faux pas about an inconsequential thing (a clothing line) that nobody will really give 2 shits about. Nobody but the deranged left is going to call for anything to come out of him being supportive of his daughter, and anybody that does attack Trump for this will be perceived as petty and making a big deal out of nothing.

Then later, when they start going after Hillary and others for all types of corruption and the left cries "bias" or whatever, the GOP can point to this and say "we're non-biased and the same ethical standards apply and that letter is proof of this".

If this is the case, this could be a brilliant maneuver. Get called out, take the punishment, and then slam the hammer on the left.
