It's pretty selfish to leave rubbish behind for sure, but it isn't as bad as I thought it would look after 23,000 people.

Leave no trace. What is so hard about leaving it at least as clean as you found it? Pick up your trash. The experience wasn't as magical as you think if you left a few tins behind. Sorry, but you are a hypocrite.

This is why I'm all for fencing it off all year round. I have no idea why they are even let in on the solstice, I know they spout religious reasons but fuck em. They are supposed to be there praising the planet the sun and nature. None of what you see in that picture is praising the planet or nature.

Edit: Fixed 2 typoes

Oh lighten up. Drinking and partying has always been a part of religion. Are they doing anything that's actually causing lasting damage to Stonehenge? Looks fine in the picture.

Oh lighten up. Drinking and partying has always been a part of religion.

If all of them folk were there for religion I'd grant you that but the majority were out for a party with no consideration for the actual pagans who wanted to be there for religious reasons. My proof of that assertion is that actual pagans, as in the love the planet and nature kind, would not have left the place in such a state after.

Are they doing anything that's actually causing lasting damage to Stonehenge? Looks fine in the picture.

Possibly yes, the reason it's fenced off is to stop the damage to the site from thousands of people walking in and around the monument. Not to mention I can almost guarantee you some idiot will have tried to scratch their name into the stones.

You say that but all those rocks were standing and in the correct formation before they got there.

While I think it's awful that they left it behind in this state, fencing it off punished those who can behave.

Yeah we should ban everyone who leave that place a mess. The hate on Stonehenge by those people that litter are triggering the heck out of me.

As strange as it may sound I'm pleasantly surprised. I opened the link expecting them to be covered in spray paint and grafitti.

That is fucking awful and a good way to get such amazing sights get fenced off and ruined for those with common sense and decency to treat such a historical sight with respect.

Hey guys, lets throw a rave at the Luxor... and no, not the one in Vegas... /s

It IS fenced off all year round with the exception of the summer solstice, precisely because of fears that tourists will damage the monument. All this goes to show is that there should be NO exceptions and it should be fenced off 24/7/365

Why go to the extreme though? I think this shows there needs to be more restrictions on what goes in, and more of a "push" to pick up your stuff.

The volunteers generally ARE hippies, along with a few national trust English Heritage volunteer-members

Or maybe the good folk just volunteered to clean up the trash and moved on with their day.

Lead by example, don't just sit there and be a cranky wanker to people you haven't even met.

I think the volunteers come from those 22,500. And that looks like way, way less than 500 people left that trash. I'm thinking more like 25-50 left all their crap behind. It doesn't take many jerks to do something like that.

If one in a thousand people left their rubbish it would look like this. By your logic all public events where a can of soda remains should be permanently banned and the premises should be closed to the public.

It isn't generally the hippies that leave the mess - it's the general public crowd that is attracted to see "what all the fuss is about".

Also, if the pictures appearing online are anything like last year, they were taken before the cleanup operation.

Don't believe everything you see on the net.

Don't interrupt my hatejerk bro, I've got so much seething hatred to spew at people I've never met based on a single picture with very little context.
