Thank you for the kind words, and I have to agree that it is great that the gun culture is shifting to be this vocal and public about basic firearms safety. I think ten, or perhaps even five years ago it wouldn't have been so easy to say those comments in public without somebody crying about gun control.

If that's gun control then I'm a bearded Dianne Feinstein, "warning shots" are reckless and idiotic. (if you're pulling the trigger it is lethal force, period, even when you're not trying to be lethal)

Absolutely agree, except maybe for the hammer-cocking or shotgun racking. Aside from the questionable at best logic of not already being cocked and locked, I think the presence of Hollywood perpetuating that has put both phenomena in the public's consciousness and they have a distinct psychological effect. For example, f I point a gun at, oh, some random person it's probably going to make them nervous, then cock the hammer it's probably going to illicit even more nervousness. Everyone and their dog knows that's what turns a gun on. Right? Right? You pull the hammer cocker back and it makes the bullet fly even faster, so you know a guy means business when he does that.

Though personally I think theatrics in a self-defense situation are dumb, they've always been dumb, unless you're a warlord or something there isn't a need to show off before you shoot somebody. Even then, I think just blasting a guy would probably have more effect.
