This is what tax brackets are for. It really should balance out to where if they make that much money it should be taxed how profit is taxed. The tax owed would be on the $1, not on the previous $25,000. The other part is only tax them if the amount left over after the taxes leaves them with the $25,000 they made.

But then that would make sense and you can't fuck the poor out of more money.

Ideally any tax system would not touch the gross amount needed for a decent living and allow people to have savings. But beyond that it should have taxes on it (and only high amounts should see anywhere near 100% tax rates). Should apply to capital gains since it is income as well. That'd put a nice dent on some rich people who do not work any jobs but lobby Congress for bullshit in their spare time.

By the way, a flat tax is a horrible fucking idea. Here's the part you gloss over on the rich: When that $10,000 payer pays 10% it's $9,000 left. When the rich person making $1,000,000 pays 10% it's $900,000 left. Now which one of you gets to bribe law makers to get what they feel is more fair to them? ~$9,000 is where the Federal poverty line was (this seriously is a fucking tiny amount of money to live on per year in the USA).

The idea of tax brackets was 1/2 assed or probably lobbied for by rich people. The intent was the base amount poor people got to live on and tax the shit out of anything passed that amount so even the high earners ended up with the same amount or only somewhat more.

Right now those with wages have the worst tax system imposed on them. All governments (local, state, federal) impose their cut off the GROSS amount earned. Corporations do not pay tax this way at all. They pay tax on profits only. What is profit? It's what is left over after the bills, the rent, the employee wages, the goods needed for selling, etc. are all paid for. A corporation can on paper have $10 billion in revenue and somehow come out with $1 in profit which is then taxed at that OH GOD IT'S SO FUCKING INSANELY HIGH tax rate of 35%. In other words they owe $0.35 to the feds.

I cannot blame anyone, rich or poor to not want more taxes. Tax payers are tired of sending Obama and company to Hawaii every two weeks. Do you have any idea how much money he spent on his vacations alone? Comes out to double digit millions after eight years. Don't even get me started on the new billion dollar Air Force One they have in the works.
