Can you make a better hamburger than McDonalds? Most people can. But you won't put McDonalds out of business because McD's isn't actually in the hamburger business, they're in the real estate business. You'd have to have a better business model, more capital, and be able to reach more people than they can in order to beat them.
Anyone can make a better social network than the obviously compromised ones that are the most popular. But if you can't get the majority of people to migrate to it, you're just pissing in the wind

You could have said the same thing about Myspace. I'm not saying this will be the next Facebook. But these kind of businesses are not invincible. Facebook already has lost favor with first the hipsters, then the young generation, and eventually the older generation too. When a replacement catches fire, Facebook will be replaced.

I think the generation of websites like facebook, reddit, and google learned a lot from the likes of Myspace, Digg and Yahoo. They are very aware of losing audience, and are far more prepared to evolve, assimilate, destroy and conquer than their predecessors.

Hey ! May be it's time I create a social media account.. Giving a form of "gratification" for your participation is genius. It's genius that its not money , or fictive fucking internet point, but visibility.
