Most of the time they are not. Here's a breakdown of how long the organs are viable for. Keep in mind that this is time from death untill transplant, so if we are talking illegal organ trafficking, you waste about 1-2 hours best case between actual death and being sent down to the coroner, and then time for the coroner to actually remove them and prep them for transport. Lung (4-6 hours); Heart (4-6 hours); Liver (24 hours); Pancreas (24 hours); Kidney (72 hours); Corneas (14 days); Bone (5 years); Skin (5 years); Heart valves (10 years).
