Oh, I think that is absolutely correct. That is why I used quotes. I was mocking the original article's claim to be so. Savage just calls himself what he is: An American.

I suspect that is not quite right. Is it not strange that we don't know what the internal arguments between Jewish Conservatives and Leftists looks like? Don't they have some realization of their common heritage and thus some reason to talk to one another?? For the life of me, I can only think of when known Jewish-background speakers talk about "Leftists" or "Conservatives" but never about Jewish leftists or Jewish conservatives. Isn't that odd? Is that too secret/sensitive for us to hear about?
