For those not familiar with Orania, it's basically an extreme example of white flight, in which a coalition of Afrikaners purchased a large stretch of land in the middle of nowhere to preserve their culture. It has been growing every year and has turned 25 years old earlier last April.
There is essentially no crime in Orania. They do not have a police station or a jail. Neighborhood watch patrols are carried out by volunteers. Orania receives no fiscal contributions from either state or provincial government. There is zero unemployment in Orania. They have a non-profit institution that provides training to unemployed young Afrikaner men that arrive, which are then given work with the municipality or local farms. The schools in Orania have a 100% matric success rate.

Andrew Kenny has a weekly column in The Citizen, a South African newspaper. He wrote an article about his visit to Orania but it was rejected by the editor who had this to say:
I’m afraid this piece might be interpreted by many as a tacit glorification of segregation and may be highly offensive to victims of apartheid. I have therefore decided not to publish it.
