The probability that you're on a road with no shoulder and no exits with your tire bursts is pretty low if you've been properly caring for your vehicle. I know it sounds crazy, but every so often after people park their car they should take a min or two to take note of how close they are to their next oil change and see how worn their tires are. In all the years I've been driving I've never had a tire blow out on me and I buy the cheapest tires I can.

Actually it has only happened to me once, so far. I have driven over a million miles and have seen some amazing sights, low odds will never preclude anything.

Were you doing regular checks on your tires for air pressure, tread wear, and rubber condition? I'd be shocked if the tire wasn't showing some symptoms before failure.
