It sounds like you are conflating PC and affirmative action. When I say PC I mean a set of things are taken off the table for discussion unless absolutely necessary, and when they are there for discussion it will be heavily moderated. Things like racial identity/religion/or any other hot button issues that are not good for unit cohesion. Basically, I don't want Joe Blow talking to me about how great Jesus/Muhammad/whatever is while I'm at work, and he doesn't want me talking to him about how I think the whole idea of a god is stupid and has no place in contemporary society. This isn't a good discussion to have when we're on a team together with a common goal. PC means leave that shit at home.

On the other hand, there are places where PC has no right to be. In individualistic settings for example. If I'm at a bar and Joe Blow comes up to me to start preaching his gospel then I have no problem arguing with him as the only thing that I'm working on then is putting down a cold one. I don't need teamwork for that. It's my own goal. Unit cohesion is meaningless in that setting.

I understand the reason that people are anti-PC right now. It's a tool though. You can use a hammer for painting, but it works better for driving nails.

Speaking of tools: School is a tool for education. I can tell from your comment that you agree with me that school isn't the end all - be all of education. We agree that there is a lot of value in the education that takes place outside of school... you know... where the parents responsibility to educate their children takes place. I'm not sure why you are trying to argue the same point I am against me.

As for everything else, if you don't like what is being taught in schools you can vote in local elections (say for school board), or you can even run in local elections (school board again). What gets taught is school is definitely politically motivated. Everything is. If you don't like what's going on, you can become politically active.

I think the more important point is that public education is preferable to no education. I'm sure that everyone who has been to school is aware of how few parents supplement their children's public education. A shitty education is preferable to no education. Kids are good with logic until some asshole (usually some type of priest) beats it out of them.

That you believe this is different from what i described demonstrates how warped your perspective is, and the mental gymnastics you must employ to reach that point.

PC culture is veiled beneath a thin shroud of good intentions. You can get away with almost anything as long as you champion yourself the protector of the weak and the downtrodden. But in doing so, advocates have singled out groups as weak, and in need of special protections. This creates an uneven playing field, with it's pits and mounds dug arbitrarily. Well, a rotten apple spoils the barrel, as the saying goes. Decades of affirmative action have forced even the most open minded of us to make considerations that would have been deemed absurd a generation ago. Is my coworker a diversity hire? She's a minority & and a women. Is she qualified, or did the company need to hire a Mexican to keep up appearances? My new primary care physician is black. Should i find a new doctor? How do i know he's competent when medical schools require weaker grades from them to be accepted & graduate? Should i find an Asian doctor instead? These scenarios would have been laughable just 20 years ago, but thanks to PC culture they are now a very frightening reality.

Now that that's quoted, please explain to me what affirmative action is.
