This is a police state.

The police force is becoming less of a unit that exists to protect and serve and more of a government endorsed and financed mob.

You can't have martial law, but you can arm the police like the military and nobody will bat an eye.

No sir. A Police state would imply that a military force would have control over civil governance. This is some sort of Socialized Corporate State that just happens to give tons of Military Equipment to terrified children who don't know any better of what to do with the equipment than to shoot everything all of the time.

i am in my 60s. i should be,at this time in my life, a staunch police supporter (demographically speaking) and for years my fear of the police grows. just yesterday i was speaking with a woman in her 80s and she said she is beginning to feel nervous about the police. so the word is getting out but the general (read corporate interest protecting) media will only barely cover it at all and only when it becomes too big to ignore.

Can you expand on why you believe this is generation-gap problem?

I'm imagining a paramilitary police force made up of 70-year-olds in uniform bashing skulls and shooting unarmed black people in the back, instead of the current state of 20-40-year-olds in uniform bashing skulls and shooting unarmed black people in the back.

this is awful. a tank to pull a shoplifter out of a house? sure, i understand he was armed, but hell, there wasn't anyone else in there with him. our government is out of control.

the breaching ram is only a very thick and heavy metal rod, not a tank

If you watch the video, the owner of the house and I believe his son say a tank was used to bust down their fence

A tank? I missed that part, I only saw that they used chemical agents, flashbang grenades and a battering ram.

i didn't read the story until just now, i listened to the news report where the owner and the neighbor said a tank was used to knock down their fences to gain access to the owners property.

Better run over the shoplifter with a tank, to make sure he can't fight back!

EDIT: It's all to make sure no police officers get hurt! /s

What an absolute shitshow. I hope the entire neighborhood drags the police force through the cleaners for this. Unfortunately they'll probably just get a slap on the wrist.

At this point it's almost as if cops are trying to get paid vacations by violating constitutional rights of citizens. I guess their corrupt unions just aren't getting them the benefits they think they deserve.

unlikely. nobody's kid was shot, no innocent people were killed. The police chief said "we did what needed to be done to protect human life" so it's unlikely anyone will actually be punished for this. The very most that could happen is if the police were compelled to pay the insurance company or the homeowner - and that money isn't even coming from the police paychecks but rather from taxpayers' pockets.

It is truly impressing to hear of a man that can speak even though being blown apart!

What the hell were they thinking? Hey I know it's only one guy but instead of using the normal break down two doors and move in lets tear this bitch up. I'm not normally one to jump on the police hate bandwagon I know a lot of cops are just doing there jobs and trying to help the community but some cops are just way to gung-ho.

This guy has a family, parents, and friends. They're all going to hear this story, and they're more likely to criticize police than defend them in front of a friend.

Police are losing the goodwill they used to have. Its because of shit like this.
