Britain's Home Secretary, Theresa May, said she would not comment on the case until the facts are fully established. She called the decision to suspend campaigning on the referendum "entirely appropriate."

'Unusual event'

Such violence involving a politician is very rare in Britain.

"It's a very unusual event within the confines of British politics," Tony Travers, a political science professor at the London School of Economics, told VOA.

Political violence in Britain is only "unusual" if you discount the ongoing and regular occurrences of Muslim violence and extreme mayhem when they do not like secular policies like Free Speech. But if you take that into account as you should then Britain is a madhouse of violence with countless people needing special police protection from Muslim assassins and an ever growing number of no-go zones/Sharia zones which effectively carve out a separate illiberal society for thousands of British Muslims.
