"At the time, the Swiss government backed EU , but Swiss voters rejected the EU bid months later."

And kudos to a government that actually operates in the manner of respecting the will of the people.

Here in the US they would send it to SCOUS and have the will of the people overruled....and then make an executive decree.

The government is extremely pro-islam and has had a series of poorly handled situations that have put a lot of canadians out of work or put their lives at risk, all while driving hard at "refugee" unchecked immigration and a lot of public islam support. Nationalists and a lot of people who've never had much political sway are looking at this trend as an attack on native canadians, and their viewpoint is shared by a good number of pundits both home and abroad as the government doubles down on social media and public events.

As a Swiss, why the fuck did they keep that application dormant all that time ? Should have been withdrawn in 92.

I'm not Swiss, but my guess is that they wanted to keep a foot in the door so the option was there

As a Swiss too, I'm wondering if removing it now is meant as a political message concerning Brexit and/or immigration. Was it kept to help bilateral negociations? Nobody cared or even knew until today anyway.

joining the EU just means turning over your freedom/sovereignty to global elites. Yeah, I would pass on that too.

Pretty sure the Swiss were the ones that responded to the refugees by moving tanks to the border. The Swiss haven't stopped being badass since their mercenary days.
